Lotus Environmental Consulting, LLC is seeking a historian or architectural historian to join our small but growing firm in our Wayne, PA office. The ideal candidate is a dedicated and motivated self-starter. The core function of this role entails working closely with staff on historic structures tasks and support the natural resoruces staff as needed. Excellent interpersonal skills, a high level of attention to detail and impeccable time management skills are critical to success in this position.
The Historian or Architectural Historian will work as a member of our cultural resources team on research, fieldwork, and reporting for history/architectural history projects. Will coordinate and conduct historical research for context statements and property histories; coordinate and conduct architectural surveys; prepare and review historic resource survey forms; write and review historical contexts; evaluate NRHP eligibility; and analyze project impacts/effects. This position provides a basis from which to grow a career at Lotus in accordance with the candidate’s strengths and career interests, including historic preservation planning studies, regulatory compliance documentation, or project management.
Conduct historical research at local, state, and regional libraries and archives, and using on-line sources.
Undertake historic resources surveys and assessments, including site inspections, research, photography, and evaluation under state and national criteria for historical significance.
Prepare historic property inventory forms (including statements of significance and architectural descriptions).
Prepare and review NEPA, and Section 106 regulatory documents.
Masters in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation or related field with 3-5+ years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years applicable experience.
Demonstrated writing and communication skills
Field work and travel required.
Must be able to work on multiple projects.
Successful candidate should be organized, detail oriented, and responsive; effectively communicate with staff, supervisors, teaming partners, and clients.
Proficient in MS Office Suite.
